Will bionics one day replace prosthetics?
I always wondered this ever since I saw the Terminator movies. I feel sad for individuals missing a limb or two. Often, I wished I could give Jim Abbott a right hand. It breaks my heart every time I see soldiers returning from Iraq with no legs and whatnot. The same is true about Rick Allen from Def Leppard when he lost his arm in a car crash. It appears donating limbs from cadavers is miles down the road. Meanwhile, I wonder if they can manufacture limbs like that of a robot and attach it to the person's body. I wonder if science fiction can become a reality and one day Jim Abbott can have a bionic hand like that of Ash from the Evil Dead movies. Rather than giving someone a useless prosthetic limb for appearance, I think a robotic limb connected to all the neurons is more suitable. After all, electricity pulses through our body; therefore, I don't see why it's not possible. Can anyone envision people having bionic limbs one day in our lifetime?
